The 4th Annual Reverse Raffle and Beefsteak Dinner

Dear Friends of Father Jim:

We would like to invite you once again to participate in the Fr. Jim McKenna Memorial Fund: 4th Annual Reverse Raffle and Beefsteak Dinner to be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 7 PM in St. Mary's Parish Hall located at 300 High Street in Closter, New Jersey. The grand prize for the Reverse Raffle will be $5,000 in gold with additional cash and prizes throughout the evening.

It's hard to believe that almost four years have gone since the passing of our beloved Fr. Jim; our friend and our spiritual leader who was always compassionate toward anyone struggling with the disease of addiction and the hardships that inevitably follows the addict and those who love them. It was Fr. Jim who encouraged the Fund to be created and it is our task to continue to celebrate his legacy by raising money so that we may follow his path.

Besides the independent donations we periodically receive throughout the year, the Reverse Raffle and Beefsteak Dinner is currently our only organized fundraiser. Last year, despite the economic slump, you matched our financial goals and then some in order that we were able to assist many this year. Since our last dinner, you donated 50 gift certificates to the men of the Ladder and the women of Spring House for the holidays, you've assisted a fellow from the rooms of AA in working towards becoming a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and aided an alum of Spring House who had a hard time making rent as she in her day-to-day life extends a helping hand with others who are struggling financially. You have purchased audio-visual equipment and supporting educational recovery DVD's as well as furniture for the Ladder. By way of your love and support, a permanent named endowment was created at Guest House, a facility whose mission is to bring recovery to those clergy suffering from alcoholism. This is just a short list of the accomplishments your donations have been able to fulfill this year and we are forever grateful. The Fund has seen a dramatic rise in the number of people and groups reaching out for assistance. Our resources are limited by the amount of money we are able to raise in the year. We would love to do so much more, and find ourselves torn when we have to turn down a request for assistance. We know we can do more with your help so please join us in making this the most successful Raffle to date.

The Reverse Raffle is an enormously entertaining and exciting way to raise money for the Fr. Jim McKenna Memorial Fund. This year, 450 tickets will be sold at $50.00 apiece and we are excited to offer you the chance to purchase five tickets at a special price of $200.00. Call a friend, call two, heck, call three friends, each buys a ticket and get one free to share; a great opportunity to help those who so much need our aid. You have the opportunity of choosing your own number(s) – any one from 001 to 450. At the dinner, every number will be picked – all 450 – and the very last number announced is the winner. It's the only raffle in which you don't want to hear your number called too soon! The winner need not be present at the dinner – although it makes it more electrifying if the lucky person is there.

The Beefsteak Dinner tickets are $25.00 each – and you'll get all you can eat of the tastiest and most succulent beef you'll ever experience. Non-alcoholic beverages are included with your price of admission, but if you care to bring your own bottled beverages please feel free to do so.

This year we are offering several sponsorship opportunities for you to support the Reverse Raffle and The Father Jim McKenna Memorial Fund and have enclosed the sponsorship form for you to fill out and return with your check.
